Jesus Loves Us - But
Do You Really Know Jesus?
No single person has impacted history and changed more lives than this one person called "Jesus". Many through the ages however, have debated His true identity. Was He simply a teacher, philosopher, prophet or king? Well, thankfully both the Bible and history itself clearly answer this key question. In fact, this same question was raised by Jesus Himself when he asked His disciples, "Who do the people say I am?" After a variety of inaccurate answers Jesus then asked , "But who do you say I am?" Without any hesitancy the leading disciple who had spent the last two years of His life with this man boldly declared, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Mt.16:13-16). Scripture unequivocally affirms that Jesus was the promised Messiah of the Old Testament who came to earth to offer His body as a atoning sacrifice for our spiritual debt and release us from the penalty and guilt of our sins and the fear of death itself (Heb. 2:14-15). As the perfect God Man Jesus represented both God and all of us when He went to the cruel cross of Calvary to take our place and die for our sin.Through His 33 year old life He proved His true Godhood by performing many miracles; the greatest of which was His own resurrection (Rom. 1:4; Jn. 20:30-31).
Though many today debate over whether all religions lead to God, Jesus boldly and exclusively declared,"I am the way, and the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father but through Me." And the apostle Paul himself also declared, "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved." In God's great love He provided us with our greatest need; a Savior. In fact, the Apostle Paul met this very Jesus on the road to Damascus when he was initially persecuting the followers of Jesus. It was then that Paul realized that Jesus was the true and only God who could save and change his life ( Acts 9). Paul came to realize that he could not attain the assurance of heaven through his own effort and obedience to the law. He needed to trust in God alone to save him (Phil. 3:7-11).
The most important question we must ask ourselves is whether we have met the risen Christ and received His forgiveness and gift of eternal life that He offers us by faith alone? (Jn. 3:36). If you were to die today do you know for sure that you would go to be with God in heaven? The Bible tells us that God offers the gift of eternal life through faith in Jesus' death, burial and resurrection to save you. Incredibly this is a free gift that can not be earned but simply received (Eph. 2:8-9). Many today are making a deadly mistake in trusting in themselves or their own works or religion to save them. The Bible teaches us that we must transfer our trust from ourselves to a personal Savior who has already died and paid the penalty for our spiritual debt.
